Well, well, well… If there’s one thing that’s better than erotica, it’s gotta be an EROTICA AUDIOBOOK! A nice, sensual voice can really elevate an already sexy story, and I am pleased to say that the audiobook version of H.H.’s Match, Cinder & Spark: Volume 2 More! delivers on all fronts.
The TehBen crew previously reviewed the physical copy of this story for The Smut Vault last year – it details the sexcapades of Lola, an insatiable nymphomaniac. Well, she doesn’t think she’s a nympho, but let’s be real here, she’s a nympho. I’m talking “puts out a Craigslist ad so she can have a battle royale of suitors compete for her pussy” level nympho. Like, “flirts with her boyfriend’s dad WHILE she’s getting fucked by her boyfriend” level nympho. Like, “how is this woman’s clit not rubbed off like an eraser nub” level sex crazy. Pretty much every sexual situation imaginable is in here, and it’s all narrated by Lola’s faithful lover, H.H.
Jupiter Grant, who has narrated quite a few other literotica novels, does a great job bringing Lo to life. A lot of these stories are heavy on the dirty talk, and Grant’s sultry accent really adds a certain sexy realism to each of the stories. One story, for example, focuses on Lola’s experience as a teen flirting it up with a college virgin. She engages in phone sex with the nervous young man, so naturally the story revolves around dirty talk. The written word is powerful, yes, but actually hearing filthy dialogue far more effective. There’s also a lot of daddy kink action going on here – H.H. is significantly older than Lola, so there’s a whole lot of “yes, daddy” and “spank me, daddy” going on. Personally, I am so not down for daddy issue sex, but I am a sucker for sultry British accents. That’s the power of audiobook erotica – a good voiceover can trick you into enjoying your least favorite kinks!
These stories also have a little highbrow aspect to them. Lola and H.H. are quite intellectual, and it made my trash goblin brain happy to feel ~sophisticated~ while listening to sexy sex talk. For example, one short story involves Lo and H.H. going to a Buddhist temple and attempting to remain abstinent. This maddens Lola, naturally, and leads her to give a dramatic monologue mid-coitus – “pussy is not profane, this is my sutra.” Now THAT is an intellectual dickdown. H.H. also goes on little sidebars about his passion for ancient historical erotica, and honestly? I would love to read THOSE stories.
A minor complaint is that having a woman’s voice narrate can be kind of funny, since the story is technically being told from a man’s perspective. I will give credit where credit is due and say that Grant doesn’t put on a distracting “man” voice when she’s voicing H.H. or one of Lola’s suitors. Her voice deepens a little to differentiate, sure, but it’s nothing too dramatic. I’ve listened to audiobooks where the narrator does an obnoxious baritone for the male characters, and let me tell you, it pulls you out BIG TIME.
The physical copy that Matt and Nelson reviewed previously included some amatuer photography, and that obviously isn’t part of the audiobook. Whether you should check out the audiobook or the physical book depends on your preferences – is it sexier for you to hear, or sexier for you to see? Personally, I find the audio aspect to be a bit better, but your mileage may vary! Overall, this is JAM PACKED with stories (the audiobook is over five hours long!), so there’s bound to be something here for you. Do keep in mind, though, that there’s a lot of daddy kink stuff, a lot of stories about an underage Lola seducing older men, and a few stories that border on sexual harassment. Your mileage may vary on that, too. If you’re ready to take the taboo plunge, though, be sure check it out!
