Meeting Mr. Big: Matt’s Smut Vault

For this week’s edition of the Smut Vault, we are getting the rare opportunity to go back in time! Nearly 100 years ago, the Prohibition era of American history is remembered for the speakeasy, the Charleston, and our recognized national pastime of organized crime. Our authors explore at least two of these concepts as they present a unique interpretation of a gigantic monstrosity of a city during the early roaring 1920’s. I’ll never turn down historical fiction, especially when there might be naked people somewhere along the way. Our fedora is fitted, our liquor is bootlegged, and we’re ready for a centennial celebration of vice and debauchery!

Meeting Mr. Big by JK Cummings and Wayne Clingan sends the reader to the 1920’s era of New Metropolis, a fictional city controlled by organized crime, with the strings pulled by the puppet master known simply as, “Mr. Big.” Mr. Big runs this town, but his right-hand-man James supplies the muscle as his strong arm to Big’s accounts. And of course, drilling even further down, at home every night waiting for James, and none the wiser to the seedy crime is James’ wife Rebekah. The young Rebekah has everything a new housewife needs: security, a lovely home, and a man who’s madly in love with her. Unfortunately, due to combination of inexperience and unfortunate circumstance, she and James have only had sex a couple of times, and never with any significant pleasure. Rebekah knows there MUST be more to his husband’s business life, and has plenty of suggestions for what needs to be done in the bedroom. Maybe a trip to the metropolis and a back office visit to Mr. Big’s club can answer all of her wanton concerns. She’s sure to get some answers, but maybe not to what she was expecting to ask.

Let’s be real about something from the top: the writing style is imperfect. I’m not one to pick on any specific flow or grammar differences to other stories of this genre, but if that sort of thing is a deal breaker, you might want to take that into consideration. What’s strong, however, is the author’s main idea, which is something that’s always impressed me about JK Cummings. It’s not just about the sexual adventures of a horny housewife: we get back story to all three essential characters and how they arrive at their respective controversial moments. There’s even a healthy back story to all the organized crime, serving as a nice break from other stories of this style that typically only care about the sex. These main characters certainly aren’t heroes, but they each have an identity, and it is something that yearns to be explored.

A re-enactment of the invention of the female orgasm.

I had the most positive experience speed reading the story, and the author’s style presents a good opportunity for digestion of key plot points without getting hung up on the details. With shy hand-play, sexy club girls, old fashioned intercourse, and even some consenting non-consent included on the menu, think of it all as a roleplayer’s dream. The costumes and funny accents speak for themselves, and with one female character exploring the multiple sexual sides of two different men, monogamous heterosexual couples (or anyone else for that matter) could use this as an opportunity to explore kinky fantasies kept simmering on the back burner. The eroticism of this story is best examined as a shared experience, and maybe your personal anecdotes will make it more valuable than merely the words on the page.

Verdict: Meeting Mr. Big by JK Cummings and Wayne Clingan is an interestingly wicked little story that provides deep background of three main characters, and their justifications for the sexual exploitations they each endure throughout. The authors use emotional connections and real world issues to promote substance over style for the rough edges of an otherwise nicely thought out narrative. Maybe don’t read every word like it’s a textbook: read it at a faster pace, and just let it wash over you and get lost in the story itself. If nothing more, use it as a conversation starter for your next sexual roleplay. It’s all about making sure you have a good time, and Mr. Big is going to see to that personally.

Special thanks to JK Cummings and Wayne Clingan for supplying a review copy of Meeting Mr. Big to TehBen.com for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
