Welcome back to the Smut Vault! Some people say that “three’s a crowd”, but in our world beyond the double steel doors, a party of three just sounds more like a good time. Writing a scene with more than two sexual participants is a challenge no matter the context, so authors involved have to be up to the task. Not to worry though, today’s author is a long time friend of the vault, and with plenty of experience in writing….more populated sexual encounters. It’s time to dust off those spurs and get down home for a countrified good time. Please join us for a little Texas-two-step done Oklahoma style. Giddyup!

Rodeo Nights by Ava Sterling introduces us to Cora, a college student back home in Oklahoma for the summer after a rather nasty breakup with her former boyfriend back in Chicago. Finally back where she feels most comfortable, Cora attends a good old fashioned rodeo that’s in town for a competition. Cora knows her stuff about the sport and can tell a good bronco buster from a bad one with ease. Still, out of dumb luck and convenience, the two best riders in the rodeo tonight happen to also be the hottest boys on the tour! Luke and Logan are the top riders on the rodeo circuit, and appear to bring out the very best in each other. After the boys take 1st and 2nd in the competition, Cora heads back to the pens to acquaint herself with the beloved horses used in the rodeo. Naturally, Cora and the boys have a chance meeting, and sparks are already flying from the first moments. While I’m sure either gentleman would kill to take this young fangirl on a date tonight, Cora runs the numbers on a slightly better idea. Two handsome gentleman cowboys, a shared luxury motor home and nothing but time for the rest of the night? Well….why not have it all and just have both?

The short story format puts this MFM threesome into high gear a LOT faster than I initially expected. Luke and Logan are truly gentlemen, and Cora’s not exactly a prowler, so maybe it’s some telepathy or something because the evening’s menu is requested and processed without the slightest hitch. It’s top drawer fantasy no matter how you slice it, and anyone from mild curiosity on the subject to full time aficionados will enjoy this intense trio encounter. I’ve been told in recent months that the erotica distinction between MFM and MMF has been the subject of some debate. Basically the conflict revolves around the sexual contact of the two male participants: MMF leaning towards the men actively being physical with each other, and with MFM containing solely a “heterosexual” contribution from each guy. The story nor the author make claims either way, which is great because I find the whole exercise in semantics tiring. A threesome experience in literature leaves a lot of room for personal interpretation as it is. Luke and Logan are not implicitly or explicitly involved in each other romantically, but they’re friends that seem closer than brothers sharing an extremely intimate moment together in a very confined circumstance. Who am I to say whether the two are feeling something unique, not written on the page or expressed from the female MC’s lone point of view? To assume arousal only came from the female portion of the sexual encounter is not only a moment to rethink a specific grouping, but perhaps even a moment to rethink the whole idea of someone’s sexual spectrum. And if it takes a literal roll in the hay in an RV parked at a horse barn, so be it.
Verdict: Rodeo Nights by Ava Sterling is a tight threesome sexual encounter retelling that packs a lot of heat inside a small package. With no room for any fluff, the MC female and her two new gentleman friends hit the ground running so to speak with an intense and satisfying experience. As with any good erotic short story, I’m left wanting more not only from the sexy encounter, but from what brought all three characters together in this moment…and perhaps what’s going to happen as this rodeo tour moves on to the next town. It’s not often that a romp next to the bovine corral in rural Oklahoma after a grueling rodeo will yield an opportunity to think about a person’s sexual spectrum…but as the state motto of the Sooner State says: Labor Conquers All Things.
