Rowdy Energy Orange Citrus: MotorMax’s Review

By: MotorMax

I finally found a can of Rowdy Energy out in the wild! When it was initially released last year, it was an online-only product. But in 2021, its presence in stores has grown, primarily to stores that are local to race tracks. Fortunately, I was able to snag myself a can from none other than a used bookstore. Yep, I was in the checkout line and there it was chilling in the fridge. There were a total of three flavors present, but I elected to go with orange citrus.

Personally, I don’t drink energy drinks like Monster and Bang all too often. I had a couple of sips of Bang once and couldn’t sit still. However, I tend to enjoy Coca-Cola Energy as well as V8 Energy. I haven’t done enough research on this beverage to determine how it will affect me, but, you only live once, so let’s try some Rowdy Energy.

For this taste test, we’ll be using all five senses: see, smell, sound, taste, and touch. But before we even take a sip of this drink, there’s the can. The can features a prominent logo for Rowdy Energy. It’s the same shape as your normal Monsters and Bangs, but it’s been said to be a better alternative to those. Obviously, given its orange flavor, the can sports an orange variety of the normal Rowdy logo, and some of the other details are orange as well.

Is this Tang?

And now the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the actual taste test. Upon opening the can, the crack of the push tab was a satisfying sound, as it almost always is. I poured a bit into a cup to get a sense of the color. It was actually orange, unlike the sickly brown color of Monster. It smells citrusy too, in a pleasant way. So far we’re off to a good start. The first taste was a small punch, as I had no idea what to expect. The aftertaste seemed a bit “off”, but the more sips I took, it slowly got better.

Up to this point I think I have drank half the can, and I feel unaffected. I drank this as my morning wake-up drink and the only thing I feel thus far is a bit more awakened. My usual morning drink, V8 Energy, uses green tea for caffeine, as does Rowdy. V8 is able to get me through my entire school day, however I am doing this Rowdy Review during my spring break, which could be for the better.

FINAL VERDICT: Rowdy Energy: Orange Citrus is just that. An orange flavored (and colored) energy drink meant to fuel your day. It’s got great taste, especially after the initial couple of sips. The can, while basic and minimal, looks phenomenal, not overdone like some of of the varieties of Monster Energy. Every can has a note from founder and NASCAR Cup champion, Kyle “Rowdy” Busch (hence the name of the drink) printed on the side. On a scale of 5 stars, it’d give it a 4.5. I don’t really know why, maybe it’s the initial sips at the start that taste funky, but it’s not 5 star material. Not to say it isn’t good; I’d definitely recommend Rowdy and I’d likely purchase it again if I saw it.
